WHITE PAPER

Switch to Smarter Water Tempering

Traditional thermostatic mixing valves can drift by ±7°F, creating unpredictable temperature swings that increase the risk of scalding and legionella growth. With legionella capable of multiplying into trillions of bacteria in just one week, and scald injuries accounting for 34% of all U.S. burn cases, temperature instability is a serious liability. Discover how digital mixing delivers ±2°F precision, faster response to demand changes, and real‑time system insight that empowers facilities to protect occupants, reduce risk, and improve energy efficiency.

Temper Water. Not Expectations.

Empower users with remote tempering insight and control, ensuring 24/7 scalding and waterborne bacteria protections.

6 Game-Changing Reasons Facilities Are Switching to Digital Mixing

Highly Precise Temperature Control

Traditional TMVs have a temperature range of 7°F and drift over time, potentially creating conditions for scalding or legionella growth. Digital mixing delivers +2°F accuracy even when demand swings.

Real-Time Insight for Confident System Management

Without real-time monitoring, alerts, logs, or historical data, hot water systems with traditional TMVs can operate out of compliance long before crews catch on. Digital valves track system conditions constantly, so any deviation triggers an immediate response.

Automated Sanitation Protects Against Waterborne Bacteria

Manual or incomplete sanitization creates an elevated Legionella risk. Digital systems automate high-temp cycles and verify they ran correctly, closing a critical safety loop.

Seamless Connectivity for Smarter Buildings

A TMV can't talk to your building automation system, leaving your team in the dark. Digital valves connect with BACnet, Modbus, Wi‑Fi, and Nexa™, giving engineers full remote visibility from anywhere, any time.

Built-In Failsafe State

Traditional TMVs can't prevent scalding during power outages. Digital mixing defaults to full cold on power loss, protecting occupants against uncontrolled hot water exposure.

Predictive Maintenance that Reduces Downtime

Traditional TMVs rely on periodic manual checks and reactive maintenance. Digital mixing systems provide logs, diagnostics, and performance data, helping facilities address issues proactively instead of after failures occur.

Digital Mixing Savings Calculator

Estimate the difference in energy cost (in energy units and dollars) required to heat water to desired settings between the IntelliStation and an equivalent TMV.

  • Calculate the energy required to raise recirculation water temperature from the lowest end of the temperature control range to the outlet and water heater temperatures
  • Provides a high-level estimate of savings gained by better temperature control and lower circulated temperature during non-use hours. Greater savings can be calculated using the broader calculation tool that allows for separate water heater/outlet temperature settings for the DMV/TMV valve types.

Resort Turns to IntelliStation 2 for Improved Operations

The Grandover Resort struggled with inconsistent hot water temperature and pressure that jeopardized guest satisfaction and lost the facility money in refunds.

IS2-cs-thumb

  • Traditional TMVs couldn’t keep up with demand, leaving upper floors with weak pressure and tepid water temperatures
  • They installed the IntelliStation 2 and immediately restored nearly 6 pounds of pressure
  • Eliminating customer complaints, The Grandover improved guest comfort, reduced energy consumption, and lowered overall energy costs
